Sculptor Jeff Day will lead a workshop covering the principles and practice of lost wax, hollow bronze casting. Jeff will guide participants through the elements of design as they apply to bronze sculpture. In the process, participants will create an original form in oil based clay which then will be cast in wax and subsequently cast in bronze at Classic Foundry in Seattle.

The class is open to all creatives looking to explore the techniques of bronze sculpture.

Previous members of Jeff Day bronze workshops will recognize this as the next step in

the bronze casting process.

- This schedule will explain the reason for spread out workshop dates:

3/5 Saturday, 10am-5pm - Workshop members will investigate the process of building clay sculptures ready for having a mold of the piece made and cast in wax. Participants are guided through the decision making process, practically, and aesthetics of casting materials. By the end of Saturday’s session, participants will have the opportunity to take their pieces home for additional time.

3/6 Sunday - 10am-3pm - Members return to the studio for final detailing and prepping the work for the mold making process.

On March 7, the work will be transported to Classic Foundry in Seattle where molds will be made of the forms and wax castings taken. The turn around for this process is 2 weeks.

3/19 Saturday - 10am-3pm - Members return to Cloudstone and are led through the detailing and finishing of the wax forms for final casting in bronze. The finished wax pieces are again transported to the foundry for casting in bronze. Turn

around time for this phase is 3 weeks.

4/9 Saturday - 10am-5pm - Members return to Cloudstone to work on the process of chasing, patina, and polishing their sculpture to its finished presentation.
